After Tamarindo it was off to the Arenal area and the town of La Fortuna. I met my sister and her husband back at the airport in Liberia and we set off for the 3 hour drive to the Arenal Pariso Spa and Resort. En route our shuttle driver and guide from RideCr stopped at a little restaurant in the hills about 30 minutes from the hotel. El Correl offers open air dining and the portions are amazing.

The rain started shortly after arriving at the restaurant and has yet to stop 2 days later. We scheduled a white rafting trip with Wave Expeditions for Wednesday. Given the amount of rain lately the river was fast and the usual class 2 and 3 rapids were about 2.5 to 3.5. The normally 1.5 hour rafting took just about an hour. Our guide Jorge, was great and loved having a good time. The apres rafting snack was fresh sweet pineapple and watermelon. The lunch was a traditional Costa Rican lunch cooked over a wood fired stove at an organic family farm and restaurant. 80% of what is served at the restaurant comes directly from the farm, including the coffee and sugar and even the Guaro (Costa Rican moonshine)
